OSPlus Utility Kit
I have created an OSPlus Utility Kit. This contains a number of utilities that you can use under DOS. These include:
OSPlus Disk Imager
Disk Imager writes images of floppy disks to floppy disks, and can read floppy disks and create images. This is very useful when installing other operating systems. For example, if you want to install Linux, simply write the Linux boot image to a floppy and reboot. This is based on RAWRITE and RAWREAD.
Expand is a file decompression utility. The compression format used by it is compatible with Microsoft's EXPAND (and LZEXPAND.DLL). UNZIP features might be added too (using InfoZIP). OPEXPAND uses code from Wine (from LZ32.DLL).
The OSPlus Editor is a fast, friendly text editor for DOS. It can convert files from RTF and Windows Write (although there are still bugs in this filter) to text. It includes a built-in calculator, and a feature to play WAV files in the background while you work, without requiring a 386 or better processor. This is the latest version (2.0) of the Text Editor (although there have been developments on the Open Source front since). Uses Heinz Rath's sound drivers, and my C bindings.
OSPlus File Finder
File Finder is a fast (and very small - just 4.99KB uncompressed) utility to search for files. A major feature here is that you can include a command to run for each file. For example, you could search for all .BAK files and delete any that are found.
ViewPlus is a file viewer that can handle very large files, with the limit being your system memory. You can view 50MB files if you have over 50mb of RAM. This includes RTF and Write conversion support.
OSPlus Utility Toolkit requires:
- An 8086 or better processor (386 for ViewPlus and File Expander)
- At least 512KB of RAM (at least 2MB extended recommended for ViewPlus and Expand)
- MS-DOS 3.0 or better (6.x recommended), or compatible (e.g. FreeDOS)
- A mouse is recommended for Text Editor, Disk Imager and ViewPlus
- A sound card is required for the WAV player
